Emotional Freedom Technique
:

The Discovery Statement
“The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system.”

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is based on the principle that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system. EFT is “psychological acupressure.” This emotional healing technique has you tap various locations on your body as you focus on a particular emotional or physical disturbance. The tapping helps to relieve the negative emotions that are associated with disturbing circumstances or physical discomfort and to restore balance. With this procedure, you can feel relief from negative emotions and physical pain within minutes. This is attributed to a particular meridian having an energy block. A normal balance is restored to your body that allows energy to flow freely. You will continue to have the memory, but you will have relief from the negative emotions you have associated with the memory. The results are lasting and contribute to positive changes in thinking and perception. Once you learn this easy technique, you are able to use it on your own. It can be used on anything. In fact, you don’t have to believe that the technique works in order for it to be effective. Be skeptical because it is different from conventional therapy, try it and see if you notice results.

EFT provides relief from any type of disturbance, whether emotional or physical. For most, relief is experienced within minutes. Some may feel relief through repetition of the process due to the complexity of the issue.

Emotional issues that have been addressed include:
 Anger
 Anxiety and depression
 Fears related to performance including sports and public speaking
 Emotional traumas, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and abuse memories
 Addictions and compulsive behaviors
 Eating disorders
 Weight loss

Physical issues that can be relieved include:
 Chronic pain
 Headaches, including migraines
 Allergies and asthma
 Tension
 Insomnia

You can also use EFT to improve performance and to reach peak potentials in sports, business practices, finances and personal relationships.

EFT frequently provides relief where other techniques fail and has a high success rate, typically 80% or better. You will be shown how to use EFT so that you can use it to help yourself. Some issues require the help of a skilled therapist. On the other hand, anyone is able to learn the technique and will be able to use it successfully on general problems and daily stressors. EFT is a technique that is fast, safe and easy to apply.

The Basic Recipe

1. Rate your intensity - Note your starting intensity between 0 to 10 with ten being the worst.

2. The Setup – Repeat 3 times this affirmation:

“Even though I have this _______________.
I deeply and completely accept myself.”

while continuously rubbing the Sore Spot or tapping the Karate Chop point.

3. The Sequence – Tap about 7 times on each of the following energy points while repeating the Reminder Phrase at each point.

Eyebrow, Side of Eye, Under Eye, Under Nose, Under Lips, Chin, Collarbone, Under Arms, Top of headaches

4. Repeat – The Sequence can be repeated again if you continue to have any negative response to the Setup statement.

5. Take a deep breath!

6. Note your ending intensity (0-10): ______. If above a “2,” repeat the steps above. You can also make the following changes:
- Making the statement more specific; what is the best way to describe what you are now feeling?
- You can modify the set-up statement in step (2) to “Even though I still have some of this _______________, I deeply and completely accept myself.”
- Make the reminder phrase as you tap the points “Remaining _______________.”
