After raising her daughters in Ashland, Oregon Betty returned to school to become a certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor specializing in working with adolescents. Since then she has developed a Life Skills/Alcohol and Drug Education Program for teens.

Betty has been working in the Drug and Alcohol field since 2000, but her focus and passion is working with adolescents.

Betty and the staff at Kolpia believe that within every child is the potential for greatness.

Betty Camner has been working with teens since 1989. She organized and co-facilitated Natural Helpers retreats, organized and helped develop a Big Sister/Big Brother Program, was part of the organizational team that developed the first ‘Fresh Start Retreat’ at Ashland High School, backup team member for ‘True Colors’ (a five day personal growth seminar for teens), as well as guest speaker and presenter on such topics as building self-esteem, nicotine awareness and the power of choice.

Alcohol and drug use within the adolescent population can range from experimentation to abuse and in some cases dependence.

Drug and alcohol use have become so prevalent in our society today that it has become difficult for some parents to identify when their child has crossed the line and their life is being adversely affected by substance use. In most cases adolescent substance abuse is a symptom that other areas in the teen’s life are out of balance. This could be family issues, poor coping skills to low self-esteem.

It is our goal to assess each child on an individual basis, build on their strengths, and share the tools needed to build self-confidence and coping skills, while educating them on the effects substance use/abuse has on their development, integrity, and future life goals.

Kolpia Counseling is licensed by the state of Oregon to provide adolescent treatment services. The Adolescent Program is able to offer a full range of services including gender specific group therapy sessions for adolescents, individual counseling sessions, mental health evaluations and therapy.
